Robert Edward Maher Memorial Trophy

Robert Edward Maher Memorial Trophy

Robert Maher proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the US Navy. He was a graduate of Tulane University and received his MBA from the University of New Orleans.

Bob was an honorary lifetime member of the Southern Yacht Club for 26 years and a respected avid sailor. He was a dedicated Leukemia Cup Regatta supporter who was the epitome of teamwork, whether on the water or in fundraising. When he wasn’t sailing, you would find him behind a camera lens, capturing special moments of those around him.

Bob was a quiet, kind and generous man who was married to his sweetheart Sylvia for 63 years.  Bob and Sylvia were truly loved by all and are survived by their daughters, Karen and Colleen, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

While Bob lost his very long battle against multiple myeloma on September 11, 2018, his spirit will be remembered as we honor his commitment to teamwork and philanthropy. The Robert Edward Maher Memorial Trophy was created in 2018 to be presented to the top national fundraising team.  Congratulations to Team Zephyr of the Porsche of New Orleans Leukemia Cup Regatta campaign on being named the winners of the 2019 Maher Trophy.  Southern Yacht Club, New Orleans.  Serving as Team Zephyr captains were David Erwin and Robert and Jenny Kottler, with team members Holly Callia, Jennifer Esler, Richard Juge, Huey Kleibert, Elise Pearce, J. Miles Reidy and Randall Richmond.
