Junior Leukemia Cup Regatta

The Junior Leukemia Cup Regatta not only challenges young sailors in a race to the finish on the water, but it also challenges them to raise money to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society?s fight for a cure for blood cancers. The money raised goes toward research aimed at finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma and providing critical services to patients and their families. The Junior Leukemia Cup Regatta reinforces the concept of giving back and encourages young sailors to fundraise in the name of young patients who are not able to enjoy their summer breaks because they are in treatment. Our program serves as a vessel through which these young sailors can learn not only new skills on the water but also the value of helping others.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is pleased to once again be partnering with the Summer Sailing School at the Washington Sailing Marina to host the 3rd Annual Jr. Regatta!

All participants in the summer sailing school held at the Washington Sailing Marina have the opportunity to join the hundreds of Potomac Riving sailors and boaters in the "sail for a cure" this summer.  Each sailing school student will hear a special presentation by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during their camp session as well as receive information on participating in fundraising.

For more information on how you can register or get involved with fundraising, contact Kaitlin McTighe at 703.399.2930.  For more information about the Summer Sailing School please visit their website.

The 2009 Jr. Regatta was lacking one important aspect - WIND!  Students raced around the marks using their hands to paddle instead!

Special thanks to Peter Howson for documenting the 2009 event with some beautiful pictures!  Click here to view the fun from 2009.
