FAQ

What is The Leukemia Cup Series?

The National Capital Area Leukemia Cup Series consists of 3 major events: The Leukemia Cup Junior Regatta, The Power Boat Poker Run and The Leukemia Cup Regatta.  We have something for water sport enthusiasts of all ages!

How can I sign up? Do I have to have my own crew? How do they sign up?

You can register through our easy online registration process HERE. You can register your boat as a captain, join someone else's boat as a crew member, or simply fundraise as an individual and come out to enjoy the weekend activities! Contact Joanna Hatch at joanna.hatch@lls.org or 703-399-2958 to get more information about an event in our area.

How soon do I have to register?

The sooner you register the better. You'll need time to recruit others to participate as crew members or even other skippers who want to compete. And the longer a fundraising window you have, the more opportunity you'll have to grow the donations.

How does fundraising work?

Whatever your style, we'll help make fundraising fun and easy.

For a super-simple approach, make use of the efundraising page you'll be given when you register. Your Leukemia Cup chapter staff will provide you with a packet filled with great fundraising tips, ideas, samples and instructions on how to create a personal fundraising Web page. You can use the site as is or add your own photos and messaging. Then, email your contacts a link to your site and watch the dollars start coming in!

In addition to raising funds online, you can also send letters to friends and contacts or be creative and hold fundraising events - parties, sales or auctions. To reward you for your efforts, we have great fundraising incentives you can receive for each level you reach!

How are funds used?

Proceeds from The Leukemia Cup Series help advance The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. This mission is carried out through funding extensive research for treatments, cures, government advocacy, patient assistance programs, community outreach and education programs.

Do I have to be an expert sailor to participate?

Not at all! Even if you're not a sailor, you can join in on the fun! From being a crew member to watching the action on a spectator boat to attending the parties, sailors and non-sailors alike can participate in Leukemia Cup events.

How do I qualify for the Fantasy Sail with Gary Jobson?

Participants who raise $15,000 or more prior to October 21st are eligible to participate in the Fantasy Sail with Gary Jobson. Please contact us for additional information and guidelines.

How can my yacht club host a Leukemia Cup event?

We are always looking to expand the events in the Series and to involve more yacht and boating clubs!  Please contact Joanna Hatch at joanna.hatch@lls.org or 703-399-2958 and ask about your group can get more involved.

Can Gary Jobson appear at our event or kickoff?

Due to Gary Jobson's schedule, he is not able to participate in person at each Leukemia Cup event. To learn more about Gary Jobson's availability or involvement at the National Capital Area events, please contact Joanna Hatch at joanna.hatch@lls.org or at 703-399-2958.
