We Salute the Leukemia Cup Regatta Supporters
In 2009, more than 250 sailors from the Twin Cities combined a passion for sailing with a committment to help cancer patients, raising $78,000 to help cure blood cancers.
The Regatta participants were led in their efforts by Bud Markhart and Jake McLean who served as the chapter's Leukemia Cup Regatta honorees. Thirteen-year-old Jake was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in February of 2002. Bud, an active member of the White Bear Lake sailing community, was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and melanoma in July of 2008. Both were actively involved in making the 2009 Regatta a success. We salute Bud and Jake for helping cure cancers.
Our deepest thanks to all of the sailors, White Bear Boat Works, White Bear Yacht Club, Black Bear Yacht Racing Association, and sponsors who participated in 2009. We are so grateful for their fantastic support!
