Sailors who participate in The Leukemia Cup Regatta raise funds in honor of local patients whose bravery in fightlng blood cancer provides inspiration and motivation. The 2011 Honorary Crew is four-year-old Axel. Axel was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) last October. He is in the middle of 6-8 months of very intense chemotherapy. He hopes to switch to a less intense phase of treatment this fall, just in time to start preschool. All together, Axel will receive three and a half years of treatment. Like most little boys, Axel loves Star Wars, Spiderman, Scooby Doo, and wrestling with his dad and brother. He also enjoys playing outside, going for walks and riding his tricycle. Axel lives in Crystal, MN with his parents Justine and Brian, his older brother Carter, and his new twin sisters Ruby and Hazel.
