What is The Leukemia Cup Regatta?
The Leukemia Cup Regattas are a thrilling series of sailing events that combine the joy of sailing with the important task of raising money to cure cancer. Skippers register their boats and recruit friends, family and co-workers to sponsor their efforts by attending fundraising events or making a donation. Many times crew members also register for the event and fundraise in addition to the skipper's efforts. Fundraising incentives are offered to all fundraisers and participants enjoy an evening celebration after each Leukemia Cup race.
How can I sign up? Does my crew have to fundraise? How do they sign up?
Click here www.leukemiacup.org/mi to get more information about registering for an event in your area. You can register online or print and mail a paper registration form. Many times crew members will sign up to register individually and become eligible for the exciting incentives. Crew can sign up through the same methods as the skipper (online or by mail).
How soon do I have to register?
The sooner the better! You'll need time to recruit donations from friends, family and co-workers or plan any fundraising activities to help you reach your goal. And the longer your fundraising window, the more opportunity you'll have to build donations. Additionally, there is a registration deadline for all skippers who wish to get their boat name printed on the official t-shirt. To check t-shirt deadlines, visit the registration page for the event you're interested in supporting.
How does fundraising work?
Whatever your style, we'll help make fundraising fun and easy.
LLS provides a free, individual fundraising page upon registration. You can use the site as is or add your own photos and messaging. Then, email your contacts a link to your site and watch the dollars start coming in!
In addition to raising funds online, you can also send letters to friends and contacts, or be creative and hold fundraising events - parties, sales or auctions. Leukemia Cup Regatta chapter staff provide a fundraising workbook filled with great tips, fundraising ideas, a sample letter and sponsorship information.
Contact Allison Frantz at (258) 581.3906 or allison.frantz@lls.org for additional ideas and instructions on collecting and submitting donations.
How does LLS use funds collected?
Proceeds from The Leukemia Cup Regatta help advance The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. We carry out this mission by funding extensive research, advocacy, patient assistance programs, community outreach and education programs.
Do I have to be an expert sailor to participate?
Not at all! If you're not a sailor, you can still join in on the fun! From being a crew member to watching the action on a spectator boat to attending the parties, sailors and non-sailors alike can participate in the Leukemia Cup Regatta. Non-sailors can fundraise and earn incentives also.
