FAQ

What is The Leukemia Cup Regatta?

The Leukemia Cup Regatta (LCR) is a national series of fundraising races sponsored by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  In Chicago, LCR is part of the Summer of FUN(d)SM, the Chicago boating community's efforts in the fight against blood cancers. There are two race circles, one organized for more serious buoy racers, and one for cruising or casual racers.

How can I sign up?

Registration is open now. Click here to register for the Leukemia Cup Regatta (August 26).

Can anyone with a sailboat participate?

We welcome all sailors, experienced racers or novice cruisers. The competition is divided into two race circles, to give a great day of racing, whatever your skill level.

How does the fundraising work?

When you register as a captain, you'll be given the chance to set up a personal fundraising page. You can customize this page with photos of your boat, a message about why you're racing, your fundraising goal and any other information that is important to you.  Post the link to this page on your social media, share it with friends and email it to your address book.

Is my crew automatically registered in the race?

Your crew members don?t have to register for the race, but they can register for their own personal fundraising page. Click here to register and see an option to register as a crew member for a boat that's racing.

I don't have a boat, can I crew on someone else's boat?

You can absolutely be a part of the fun! You don't have to race to fundraise. Click here to see an option to register as a fundraiser without a boat. You can still set up a fundraising page, send the message out on social media and help the fight.

Where is the Regatta?

The Regatta takes place in two race circles off Monroe Harbor on August 26. After the competition on the water, boats, captains, crews and guests return to Columbia Yacht Club for a killer dock party with great food, more competition and games, dancing and the awards ceremony.

I have a power boat. Can I be in the Regatta?

The Regatta is designed for sailors. You can certainly register to fundraise for the Regatta, or you might want to click here to register for the Poker Run on August 12 - an event tailored to power boaters.

How is the money that I raise going to be used?

Proceeds from the Leukemia Cup Regatta help advance The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. This mission is carried out through funding extensive research for treatments, cures, government advocacy, patient assistance programs, community outreach and education programs.

What other events are in the Summer of FUN(d)SM?

In addition to the Regatta, Chicagoans raise funds and participate in the Stand Up Paddle Regatta (July 1), The Poker Run (August 12) and the gala kickoff to the Regatta Weekend, Red Sky Night (August 25).
